A little after a year of being open, the Packing House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A few places have come and gone since our first visit, but it is always busy, and remains one of my favorite places to dine at because of its history and variety. When you can’t take one more second of the mind-numbing chaos of Downtown Disney, round up the crew and head to the Anaheim Packing House.

Today, we’re gonna call up a FRAN and have them take us a few blocks (for free!) further into the Anaheim Packing District as we head towards the landmark Anaheim Packing House. I hope this post inspired you to schedule a day or night at the Anaheim Packing District. There are so many great options to choose from and plenty of amazing things to eat. After dinner, we grabbed some ice cream and headed over to the park so the kids could get out some much needed energy. There is a grassy area and plenty of seating, so you can relax in the beautiful outdoor weather.

With so many options at Black Sheep Grilled Cheese Bar, it’s never been so much fun or so delicious to build your own grilled cheese sandwich. Customize your queso or try one of their creations like the sandwich made with goat cheese, caramelized onions, roasted tomatoes and arugula pesto. Paired with a bowl of hot creamy tomato soup, and you’ll be rocking your childhood favorite with a grown-up palate. In truth, one would be hard pressed to find something that doesn't work in a waffle sandwich. More than word play here, the Iron Press does a fantastic job of pairing delicious sandwiches on waffles with local, craft beer. What was once an orange processing plant that has since been rebuilt as the hip food hall now known as the Packing House. The old Sunkist facility dates back to 1919 when citrus was Orange County’s main claim to fame. This food hall contains a one-stop sampling of the diverse population, fresh produce, and world-class culinary talents that make Southern California one of the best places to eat in the world.

Another great place for a dessert item though is found at The Pie Hole, one of the newest additions to the Anaheim Packing House. I’ll bet you can figure out what tasty treat is served up there. If you have kids, they will love running around at Farmer’s Park. One of my favorites is SEED or browsing the dried flowers truck that sits on the top level near Popbar. The Blind Rabbit is hands-down the best cocktail bar in the Anaheim Packing District in my opinion, but you’ll need reservations and it’s a very small, intimate space. Please check with individual establishments for current hours of operation.

It’s flavorful peasant fare, served with an extraordinary long grain rice that possesses an almost pasta-like texture. If you just want a snack, nibble on kibbe ($3) fried in a football shape, or borek ($5) which is feta-like cheese wrapped in dough and fried. Spice things up with the signature aleppo pepper condiment or add richness to any dish with the silky, ivory colored tahini sauce. Add color to your day and spice to your plate when you visit Urbana at the Anaheim Packing House. The first thing you will notice is the vibrant decor, bringing Dia de los Muertos vibes to Anaheim year-round. Next, you’ll be delighted by the farm-fresh Mexican plates like Red Snapper Ceviche or Pork Belly Tacos.

It all tastes like grandma’s back there in the kitchen and she always will  be—the heirloom recipe for that coleslaw is 200 years old. At Georgia’s the fried chicken gets a lot of attention but it shouldn’t be the only star. In my book it’s those two tender smothered pork chops ($13.95) covered with a golden bacon gravy so velvety it could rest beneath a silver dome at a Creole dinner house in New Orleans.

Packing House can get crowded, especially on weekends, with not a single spot in their lot, but it is a teeny tiny lot, and there are plenty of other places to park! Visit their website for further details on events, parking, hours, and an up to date list of restaurants. With 42,000 square feet, the Packing House features over 25 unique places to dine, including a speakeasy.

Whatever floats your boat, you’ll have a blast at this 53,000-square-foot restaurant/stage/dance hall. While high-quality beef gets a big play here, Executive Chef Michael Rossi’s farm-to-fork menu goes far beyond meat and potatoes. Burn off enough calories for dessert with a spin on the 1,222-square-foot dance floor, with live bands playing country music until the wee hours. A trip to Anaheim isn’t complete without visiting one of the area's top dining destinations—the Anaheim Packing House.
